[WARDED TO THE ORDER] Since Sturgis has written about the ID cards (anyone who wants to help us figure out how to duplicate it would are high encouraged to do so; it'll especially help the Muggleborns and Elsie made a very good copy of a duplicated card before. Now that we're nearly solving the number patterns, I think there's a good chance we could put this into good use). I figured this would be a good time to bring up what I've been working on with Lily and Remus for the last couple of months.
I hope this is going to make sense because I have a bit of a hangover.
We've been working on something called Wolfsbane Potion for some time. At first I thought I was going to base it on how the Calming Draught is concocted, but later after several experiments, I realised that this was something more advanced than I thought it would be, especially after I used aconite. I've found more information about aconite besides the fact that werewolves are weak against it -- and since then have started experimenting the potion on Remus. It was a risk, I know, but we don't know any other werewolves and he was willing to do it. And we've been careful with the ingredients, too. I didn't think it was going to work very well, especially after the first attempt. Remus got very sick, though, to a degree, he didn't injure himself too much -- which meant that he had been somewhat aware of his surroundings. It's a breakthrough, considering werewolves lose control of themselves during full moon.
It was still a bit tricky to proceed to the 2nd attempt though; we didn't want to hurt Remus, so we began experimenting with less amount of bloodrot. Lily even added more armadillo bile in the potion, and we figured out a way to neutralize the poison
without having to get rid of it (it's the best poison to use to calm and lower the heartbeat of the drinker): by adding more bitter orange. I thought it was useless but it started neutralizing the aconite and bloodrot combination. We also raised the amount of aconite in the potion.
The result was that Remus' strength and dexterity as a werewolf lowered (based on our observation). It was most definitely an improvement, though he still got a little ill (not as bad as before, but still; apologies for that, mate), but his transformation left him fewer scars, which means that the potion managed to remove the Dark Magic that comes with werewolf transformations.
There are still things I'm not sure about, such as how to
not get Remus sick (it seems impossible to completely keep him healthy with aconite being one of the ingredients but we'll figure this out soon
, Marlene) But I've been thinking for some time and I think we should make this useful for us. Clearly the Death Eaters have werewolves siding with them and we know that they're difficult to fight against, so why not use the potion? I don't know how we can make it work though because so far we've only figured out that this is only effective for drinkers and aconite would probably not work as good as it would be without full moon but
what if we could somehow use another ingredient almost as strong as aconite, combine it together in one potion and
Sorry, got excited. But if the potion can be concentrated and strong enough then maybe it can be used on them when they're not in werewolf form as well? Lily, if we raise the amount of aconite
slightly (maybe to 3 1/4 ounces) use another strong ingredient -- we can make it work. We'd have to neutralize it in a different way of course but I think it might be possible.
What do you think? Merlin's pink slippers I need something to eat.
